Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
