The Video Platform Provides Users Control to Reduce AI-Generated Videos in Personal Streams

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that allows them to lessen the quantity of AI-made content appearing in their feeds. This initiative comes as the service disclosed that it currently hosts over 1 billion AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

The new functionality is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a global launch. This development coincides with a surge in AI content, driven by new video-generation tools.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that approximately one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding channels on a popular video site only show clips produced artificially. A large amount of this content is considered mass-produced AI material, a phrase for inferior, factory-style content that is frequently absurd or surreal.

Based on user feedback that numerous viewers appreciate content made with AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to educational videos, and we want to provide users the ability to increase or decrease of that, based on their own likes,” stated a spokesperson.

Volume and Proportions

TikTok shared that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its app tagged as artificially created. In total, in excess of 100 mn videos are submitted to the service each day, making AI-generated material a minor portion of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Viewers will be capable of limit or boost the volume of AI content they see by opening the topic control setting in the platform and choosing AI-made media. Other topics that can already be controlled under the setting include current affairs, clothing, cosmetics, and dance.

Platform Guidelines

The platform’s rules mandate creators to tag “realistic” artificially created content, and it forbids harmful deepfakes of celebrities or crisis events. Any believable artificial content that is not labeled can be taken down under its community policies.

Furthermore, the service will henceforth apply an AI-generated label to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing artificial media. This action is aimed to deter users from attempting to circumvent the labeling process.

AI Literacy Programs

The platform is additionally launching a two million dollar awareness program for specialists and organizations to develop informative material about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will benefit educational bodies dedicated to teaching coding and technology.

Content Safety Approach

TikTok has defended its content review process, during discussion over intentions to make redundant a large number of review team members in Britain. It is expected to eliminate 439 jobs in its user protection team in the UK capital, with worker representatives and internet security professionals raising concerns that humans are being replaced by machine-led review.

A senior executive explained that people-led review would continue to be important, but automated tools can shield workers by removing the most graphic content prior to it is viewed by people. TikTok announced a 76% decrease in shocking and graphic content handled by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to reliance on its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to balance staff and AI to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we also think it’s very important to minimize viewing of dangerous material as swiftly, which is the area in which a lot of the machine support is proving valuable work at speed.”
